The Top Gun movies made famous the world’s most elite military aviation programs, the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School, aka TOPGUN. The Navy launched TOPGUN during the Vietnam War as air combat losses climbed. Located today at the Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, TOPGUN breaks students into three groups: Strike Fighter Tactics Instructors (SFTIs), Adversaries and Air Intercept Controllers. TOPGUN graduates go on to become teachers in their units, passing along the knowledge and skills gained during their 13 weeks of training. Join VBC Happy Hour as we talk with TOPGUN alumnus Evan Werner and others who have been through the program and have learned key lessons of leadership, as well las aircraft handling.
