Conversations about all things WWII, including the stories of WWII veterans. Zoom program simulcast on Facebook and YouTube. Hosted by Veterans Breakfast Club, Historical Society of Mt. Lebanon, Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Tonight’s program is Hollywood vs. History: The Bridge on the River Kwai . Elaine Wertheim and Glenn Flickinger will lead a discussion of David Lean’s 1957 epic masterpiece about the Allied POWs in Burma-Thailand. The movie won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and is considered one of the greatest of all time. One former British POW, however, called the movie “a load of high-toned codswallop.” Read a bit more on the history of the Burma-Thailand Railway project and the movie here: https://veteransbreakfastclub.org/bridge-on-the-river-kwai/
