Ahead of Veterans Day, a special celebration in Pittsburgh honored WWII veterans

Eleven veterans proudly wearing hats that read “WW2 Veteran” were the guests of honor at a celebration to kick off Veterans Day weekend activities. More than 100 people gathered at the LeMont Restaurant on Mt. Washington on Thursday to kickstart a weekend of Veterans Day observances.

Samuel Jury, 76, has only one memory of his late uncle. He remembers walking around his childhood home’s coffee table as a toddler while his uncle, wearing a khaki uniform, and dad were casually talking with one another. Soon, Mr. Jury’s uncle would leave to fight in the Korean War.
