Many thanks to the 6th graders at Jefferson Middle School in Mt. Lebanon, PA, for raising $1,000 for the VBC through their World War II education project. They not only learned about the war but also about the sacrifices and service of veterans generally. And they wrote beautiful tribute letters which we’re passing out at our events. The project culminated in “Home Front Day” where the kids came to school in 1940s dress. We’ve posted a short slide show of “Home Front Day” and a 3-minute video of the 6th graders explaining what they learned. Teachers Kathy Cort and Kristin Hertzog and Librarian Susan Anstandig deserve enormous credit for instilling an understanding of and appreciation for the experiences of our veterans.
