Vietnam Veteran Bob Reilly has collaborated with musician Joe Mangold to create the song “Come Home My Vietnam Vets.”
The song serves as a tribute to Vietnam veterans, aiming to honor their service and offer a heartfelt “welcome home” that many did not receive upon their return.
Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, including a one-year tour in Vietnam with the 6th Battalion, 33rd Artillery. His unit provided artillery support in the I Corps area, notably in the A Shau Valley and along the Demilitarized Zone, firing over 400,000 105mm rounds in support of Allied Forces.
In 2016, Bob Reilly was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a condition that profoundly affected his life. Determined to confront and manage his PTSD, he became actively involved in supporting fellow veterans and their families.
Beyond his musical endeavors, Bob has been a dedicated advocate for veterans. He has contributed significantly to initiatives like the “Joe Griffies Welcome Home Show” and the Edison High School Alumni Association, focusing on honoring and assisting veterans. His efforts exemplify his unwavering dedication to ensuring that the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans are recognized and remembered.
Bob’s collaborator, Joe Mangold, lost his brother, Leo, in Vietnam. Leo was a US Marine killed in action on March 3, 1969, on Mutters Ridge, Hill 400.
Bob’s journey from soldier to advocate and musician highlights his resilience and commitment to healing and honoring the veteran community.
