One of the most unforgettable moments of VBC StoryFest 2026 is coming to Morgantown, West Virginia. We hope you’ll join us there!
When we planned StoryFest, we chose to close the festival with Cody LeRoy Wilson’s one-man play, Did My Grandfather Kill My Grandfather? It was a little risky because we’d never presented a play before, and we wondered how our audience, especially our Vietnam veterans, would respond.
Cody’s performance held the room spellbound. Vietnam veterans and others stayed afterward for a heartfelt conversation with Cody that lasted for an hour. Several told us it was a highlight of the entire weekend.
Born and raised in the hills of West Virginia to a Vietnamese mother, Cody tells the story of growing up between two worlds while imagining the wartime service of his two grandfathers—one American and one Vietnamese. The result is a deeply human exploration of memory, identity, masculinity, family, and the long echoes of war. Broadway World called it “masterful storytelling.”
