Fresh from the Paris Olympics, Eric McElvenny about his inspirational journey from losing his leg in Afghanistan to World Class Athlete. Eric lost his right leg below the knee after stepping on an IED during a patrol in 2011. This life-altering injury didn’t stop him from pursuing athletics. In fact, it motivated him to take on new challenges, including Ironman races and the Paralympics.

Since his injury, McElvenny has competed in eight Ironman triathlons, with his first being in Kona, Hawaii, just 22 months after his amputation. He’s also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and Paris 2024.

He grew up in Western Pennsylvania, always knowing he wanted to serve in the military. He attended the United States Naval Academy, where he played both baseball and rugby before being deployed to Afghanistan.

Beyond his athletic achievements, McElvenny is also an inspirational speaker, sharing his story of perseverance across the U.S.

Eric’s story continues to inspire not just athletes, but anyone facing challenges, showing that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
