Veterans and military families understand well the frenzies and uncertainties of deployment–leaving behind loved ones, including beloved pets.
When duty calls, finding a safe place for these furry family members can be a challenge.
This is where PACT for Animals steps in. PACT is a nonprofit dedicated to providing temporary foster homes for the pets of deployed military personnel, Veterans, and those undergoing critical medical treatment at no cost to the pet owner. PACT operates in all 50 U.S. states, and has placed over 4,000 pets with screened fosters in the 12 years they’ve been operating. By offering a safe and loving environment, PACT ensures that these pets are cared for until they can be reunited with their owners.
As a veteran, you have a unique opportunity to continue serving your fellow service members by becoming a foster. You can provide the stability and care these pets need while their owners are away. Fostering is a way to stay connected to the military community, to give back, and to support those who are still serving.
Imagine welcoming a dog or cat (they often get other kinds of pets as well) into your home, knowing that you’re not just providing a temporary place to stay but offering peace of mind to a soldier deployed overseas. You’re helping a fellow service member focus on their mission, knowing their pet is safe and loved. And when that service member returns home, you get to witness the joy of their reunion, knowing you played a crucial role in making it possible.
Fostering with PACT is also a rewarding experience for you. With PACT for Animals, owners retain financial responsibility. That means no cost to you, but you still enjoy the companionship of a pet without the long-term commitment. You can experience the unconditional love that only an animal can provide, and to be part of a community that values and honors military service.
By joining PACT as a foster, you’re not only supporting the pets of our nation’s heroes, but you’re also continuing your legacy of service. You’ve served your country; now, you can serve those who are still in uniform by providing a safe haven for their beloved pets.

Some Success Stories:
This is Maxine and her best buddy, Cheese, who was fostered with PACT for Animals. You can see them featured here on The Dodo.
This is Noodles and her owner who is in the National Guard and received last-minute deployment orders to go to Kuwait. With PACT’s help, he no longer has to worry about his cat while he serves.
He-A’s human needed to complete training for the Marines and didn’t have anyone to care for his best bud. That’s where PACT and our amazing team of fosters came in. He-A is happy with his foster, who are in constant communication with Dad so he gets updates on his buddy. It’s another amazing PACT success story.
