Operation Babylift was the evacuation ordered by President Gerald Ford in April 1975 of thousands of Amerasian babies and children housed in orphanages throughout South Vietnam. After the crash of the first flight out on a military cargo plane, Pan Am rerouted two 747’s to Saigon to evacuate over 700 children. We talk several of the people involved in the operation, including its director Al Topping, and also one of the babies evacuated by Pam Am, Carol Mason.
