On November 21, 1970, a Joint Special Operation involving Army, Air Force, and Navy forces launched a daring attempt to rescue 61 POWs being held at a North Vietnamese prison camp 23 miles northwest of Hanoi. Operation Ivory Coast/Kingpin failed to bring back any prisoners, but the attempt provided excellent lessons learned for future Special Ops.
