On VBC Happy Hour in February 2021, we had a wonderful conversation for the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, otherwise known as the First Persian Gulf War of 1991. Architect Randy Schumacher is chief of design for the National Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial in Washington, DC. Groundbreaking for the memorial is scheduled for July 14, 2022. Randy talked about the design process and symbolism of the memorial. Also joining us were several veterans of Desert Storm, including Marines Brad Washabaugh and Leon Mickens, Army veterans Cee Freeman, Patrick Dubiel, and Rick Altman, and Navy veteran Chris Pirollo. Gold Star Mother Christine Jensen shared the story of her son, Brian Simpson, who was killed by a Scud missile on February 25, 1991. Enjoy this VBC Rewind selection from last year.
