Vet-A-Thon Highlights
Our first annual Vet-A-Thon is in the books. Thank you to the donors and sponsors who helped us reach our $25,000 fundraising match for the Pritzker Military Foundation on Behalf of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library’s challenge grant to support the VBC’s national expansion. The Vet-A-Thon featured 22 hosts over 24 hours with almost 100 veteran guests sharing stories. All 24 hours can be viewed on YouTube in three parts: 12:00am-8:00am, 8:00am-4:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am.
Highlights include: OIF Marine veteran (and archeologist) Josh Cannon talking about the world’s oldest war memorial in the Syrian desert. Students Trey and Casey Burman paying special tribute to veterans. OIF/OEF Army Ranger Chris Hutchins summing up his 13 combat deployments. OIF/OEF Navy SEAL Robbie Stock on how his shattered arm was put back together. Former Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan Greenert discussing his 40-year Navy career. Retired Army CSM Marvin Hill on what Veterans Day means to him.
OIF Army Captain Ryan Ahl quizzes his old buddies on food, theft, and falling asleep on guard duty. Son of legendary WWII Marine With the Old Breed author Eugene Sledge on his father’s legacy. Army interpreter Ehab Al Akrawi talks about meeting Americans in Baghdad for the first time. Carole Popchock reads a great letter from her WWII pilot uncle to close the program.
